GorettiKyomuhendo was born in Hoima, Western Uganda in 1965. She went to Kibuli and Sir Tito Winyi Secondary schools for her O-and A- levels. She studied Marketing at the National college of Business Studies, Nakawa. She is currently studying for a master’s degree in creative writing at the University of Natal, Durban in South Africa.
Kasemiire’s father, in The First Daughter, endures the mockery of his beer-drinking friends and sends her to school. She is the first person from the family to go to Duhaga secondary school and she excels. There she meets Steven, a rich but gentle hunk. Before her O-levels she becomes pregnant. Her father’s anger is wild. He throws her to her mother out of the home. There is no news of her true love Steven.
Slowly Kasemiire pulls herself up, through miseries, betrayal and disappointment, until she wins her rightful success.
The First Daughter is her first novel and it has enjoyed immense population both in Uganda and outside since its first publication in 1996.
